Polyester fabric prices are influenced by much more than the cost of yarn. The upstream chain runs through PX → PTA → MEG → PET → polyester filament → woven fabric, so energy prices and petrochemical market movements can eventually affect the cost of finished woven polyester fabrics.

CCFGroup's August market tracking showed continued activity across the polyester chain. During the final week of August, the market recorded movements in PX, PTA and MEG, while polyester plant operating conditions and yarn sales remained mixed. CCFGroup also reported that some polyester yarn sales were still sluggish toward the end of the month.

This is important because a higher upstream price does not automatically translate into an equally large increase in finished fabric prices.

For example, if raw material costs increase while downstream demand remains weak, mills may absorb part of the increase. On the other hand, if raw material costs rise at the same time as yarn inventories tighten and fabric orders improve, the increase can move through the supply chain more quickly.

That is why, when we review polyester fabric prices, we do not look at PTA or PET alone. We also consider the fabric construction, yarn denier, coating system and final application when evaluating a woven polyester fabric. We also watch:

What does this mean for woven fabric?

For products such as 20D, 75D, 300D and 600D woven fabric, the raw-material movement in August did not create a simple “all prices up” situation.

Instead, we saw a market where raw material volatility and downstream demand were pulling in opposite directions.

That generally favors a more disciplined pricing approach. For longer-term projects, we prefer to quote according to actual specifications, coating requirements and production timing instead of assuming that one monthly market price can represent the entire quarter.


2. Nylon 6 Prices Increased in Europe, but Demand Was Still a Limiting Factor

Nylon followed a somewhat different pattern.

According to ICIS, European August nylon 6 contract prices increased on average. The assessed range for virgin nylon 6 polymer in Northwest Europe was €2,300–€2,500 per tonne, with the low end increasing by €100/tonne while the high end remained stable. ICIS attributed the upward pressure mainly to higher benzene feedstock costs, while also noting seasonally weaker demand and ample supply.

This combination is particularly interesting.

It means the nylon market in August was not simply a demand-driven price rally. Instead, cost pressure was rising faster than underlying end-use demand.

CCFGroup's August nylon market coverage also showed continued activity around caprolactam, nylon 6 chips and nylon filament yarn, while its August 1–15 operating report continued to track production and capacity developments across the nylon chain.

For woven nylon fabric, this matters because nylon is commonly selected when the project prioritizes properties such as:

  • high strength-to-weight performance

That is why we continue to see nylon used selectively rather than simply as a replacement for polyester.

For a lightweight backpack shell, technical outdoor equipment or premium travel product, a higher-priced nylon construction can still make sense when the fabric performance justifies the additional material cost.


3. The Biggest Material Trend in August: Recycled Polyester Is Moving Toward Commercial Production

One of the most important developments this month came from the recycled polyester sector.

On August 25, 2026, Circ announced a partnership with Shenghong Chemical Fiber New Material to support commercial production of polyester filament yarn using Circ's textile-to-textile recycled materials. Under the agreement, Shenghong will purchase Circ PET chip and use it to produce recycled-content filament yarn at commercial scale.

This is significant because the industry is gradually moving from:

“Can textile waste be recycled?”

to:

“Can recycled textile material be converted into fiber at meaningful industrial scale?”

The difference is important.

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics Autumn Edition was held from August 25–27, 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.

According to Messe Frankfurt, the exhibition covered approximately 240,000 square metres and featured more than 3,500 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions. The event focused heavily on performance textiles, sustainability and textile innovation.

Our current product range reflects this segmentation. For example, our 600D polyester Oxford fabric with PU coating is 180 gsm, while our 1680D polyester Oxford fabric with ULY coating is 240 gsm and our 1680D TPU-coated version is 280 gsm. Our 230T twill nylon Oxford is approximately 100 gsm.

That difference illustrates why denier alone does not tell us everything.

A 600D fabric with a suitable construction and coating can be more practical than a heavier fabric when weight, flexibility and manufacturing efficiency are important.

Likewise, a low ex-factory price can lose its advantage when freight, tariffs or production delays increase.

Reuters reported that shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz was still far below normal levels, while traffic through Bab el-Mandeb also showed signs of disruption.
